About

Changing Lives Now and For Eternity

Our doors are open. Our table is set. The Frederick Rescue Mission commits to sharing our Christ-centered ministry with those in need in our community.

Whether the need is a hot meal, a warm jacket, or respite from the daily challenges of life, the Frederick Rescue Mission serves residents from Frederick County and surrounding areas with grace and love.

People come to us when they are hungry, facing poverty, and desire to break free from chemical addiction. We welcome all with open arms and a heart of compassion. Our love-centered service is not transactional – it’s transformational.  We’re working to better the lives of those in most need in our community, not just for a moment in time, but for eternity.

If you would like to support the Mission, please visit our Giving or Current Needs pages.

And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.

Hebrews 13:16

Our Mission

Through Christ’s love, we offer:

  • Residential recovery programs for those experiencing homelessness or chemical addiction.
  • Nutritious meals to the hungry.
  • Clothing and personal care items to those in need.

We also recognize that needs go beyond food and clothing. The Frederick Rescue Mission, through our ministry team of volunteers, fosters relationships with our community. We sit with them. We pray with them. We bring light to dark times in their lives.

At the Frederick Rescue Mission, we change lives now and for eternity.

Amy Newton
Director of Finance

Amy manages the Mission’s accounting, payroll, and employee benefits. Before joining the Mission, she worked in public accounting as a licensed CPA. Amy enjoys running, baking, and spending time with her family. She started volunteering with the Mission over a decade ago; since then, she has been excited to be a part of what God is doing at the Mission.

Arnold Farlow
Executive Director

When Arnold started leading the Frederick Rescue Mission in 2005, the building was in disrepair. Since then, he oversaw major renovations to the main campus, coordinated the construction of a new kitchen and dining hall, and re-opened Faith House in a new location on Market Street. Arnold’s mission is to pursue Christ and invest in people; before coming to Frederick Rescue Mission, he served in pastoral ministries and services to those in need. For fun, he loves riding his bicycle and watching UNC Tarheels beat Duke in basketball. Arnold says, “God led my family and me here. I love to be a part of changing lives now and for eternity.”

Ashley Garland
Faith House Director

Ashley oversees the ministry of Faith House, bringing Jesus’ healing and hope to women and children experiencing homelessness. Before coming to the Mission she was President of the Evangelical Ministerial Fellowship of Frederick County, as well as the Senior Pastor at Victory Christian Center. Ashley enjoys spending time with her family, drinking coffee, networking, and sharing the love of Jesus at home and abroad. She loves watching people transformed by the power of the gospel. She says, “God brought me to the Mission to comfort the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to the captives, and walk with them as they rise from ashes to beauty.”

Brian Bateman
Communications Manager

Brian creates print and digital communications for the Mission, including the newsletter and social media. He is also responsible for the Mission’s graphic design projects and photography. Brian practiced marketing for most of his adult life and enjoys writing, photography, creating art, and playing musical instruments. He has served on over a dozen short-term mission trips and lives to share the love of Christ. Brian loves telling stories through various mediums, especially those of people touched by God through the Mission.

Brian Disney
FOOD DISTRIBUTION CENTER Manager

Brian manages the transportation of food from the Mission’s warehouse to various food distribution sites. He previously ran a small business before entering and completing the Changed Life Recovery Program. The program’s impact on his life, as well as those of so many others, inspired him to contribute his talents full-time to the Mission. He says, “The Mission has allowed me to meet a lot of wonderful people and discover new aspects of life.”

Brian enjoys working out, especially with Orange Theory, and is an active member of Collective Church. He is highly motivated to give back to the community and hopes to make at least a small difference in the lives of others.

Carlton Hill
CLRP Director

Carlton oversees the Changed Life Recovery Program (CLRP), a 12-step ministry based on Biblical principles. He enjoys drawing, painting, and playing various sports. Carlton came to the program as a participant in 2003, homeless and addicted to drugs, and found freedom through Jesus Christ. After graduating from the CLRP, he studied counseling and became licensed as a CPRS, PRS, CRCT, CSC-AD, and CCBT. Before working at the Mission, he was a food manager and a chef. He was also a Community Outreach Worker at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Carlton is now a pastor, a teacher, and a proud grandfather.

Carolyn Chandler
Volunteer Manager

Carolyn connects over 1,000 people monthly to volunteer opportunities at Frederick Rescue Mission. She was a real estate agent before joining the Mission. When away from work, Carolyn enjoys gardening and spending time with her family and friends. She says, “I love seeing the Lord show up in big and small ways in people’s lives on this campus. Through the power of God, people are being transformed, healed, and set free from addictions and bondage. It is an amazing blessing to serve at the Mission.”

Chris Bugher
Learning Center Director

Chris strives to empower participants with the skills, strategies, and behaviors of confident, independent, and lifelong learners. She has been the Executive Director of two nonprofits, a reading specialist, a training manager, a business owner, and a community college teacher. Her life’s passion is to see individuals and organizations reach their fullest God-given potential. Chris and her husband David love to travel and explore new cities and countries. She considers the Mission a place where lives receive healing and transformation. “I can’t think of a better purpose in which to be involved.”

Chrissy Ehrlich
Rescued Treasures Coordinator

Chrissy supervises the volunteers in Rescued Treasures. Together, they provide clothing people need for themselves and their families. Before coming to the Mission, Chrissy was a physical therapy technician. She enjoys reading, hiking, dancing, and spending time with family and friends. Most of all, Chrissy loves being able to assist a diverse community in clothing themselves, connecting personally and spiritually with guests, volunteers, and residents. Chrissy is impressed by the generosity of strangers to other strangers. She says, “The Mission is always there to serve. I love being a part of something bigger than myself and working alongside others with the same passion.”

Greg Lamp
Rescued Treasures & Recycling Manager

Greg oversees a team that collects clothing for Rescued Treasures and oversees the maintenance of the Mission’s box trucks. Before joining the Mission, Greg was a warehouse and installation manager for a window and door company. He enjoys watching and attending sports events, spending time with his kids, hiking, and mountain biking. Greg came to the Mission as a resident of the Changed Life Recovery Program (CLRP) in 2000; today, he supervises men from the CLRP and encourages them that recovery is possible.

Guy Mutchler
Director of Food Distribution & Facilities

Guy oversees a food ministry that distributes 200,000 pounds of food each month. He also develops and maintains relationships with over 50 local partners and food donors. He originally came to the Mission in 1996 to recover from his addiction to drugs and alcohol. Guy used to work in construction and building management, but after completing the Mission’s recovery program, he never left! Guy loves the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. He says, “If it’s not fun, it’s not worth doing!”

Jake Sexton
CLRP Case Manager

Jake graduated from the CLRP in October 2014 and continued to serve in the program. He was such a powerful encouragement to the residents that the Mission hired him two years later. Since then, God has used Jake to set countless men free from their addictions. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, serving at his church, and playing or watching any sport. Jake says, “I needed Jesus before I became addicted to drugs; I just didn’t know it yet. He used my circumstances to make me aware of my need for Him.”

Jasmine Sneed
Director of Partnership Development

Jasmine develops relationships with donors and the community and oversees the Mission’s Communications Department. Before joining the Mission, she owned Picture Puzzle Productions, a Frederick-based boutique consulting firm specializing in event planning, marketing, and strategic planning. Since relationships are Jasmine’s number one passion, spending time with family and friends is fun for her. She finds working at the Mission with a team who loves both Jesus and people exhilarating! She is immensely satisfied by leveraging her skills and background to serve the community.

Lisa Catania
Volunteer Support Coordinator

Lisa supports Carolyn Chandler, the Volunteer Manager, bringing joy, support, and prayers to all the volunteers. Lisa is a former elementary and middle school teacher and has directed a church children’s ministry. She enjoys the outdoors, specifically hiking, biking, and kayaking. Lisa says that she is impressed with the joy that overflows from the other Mission staff members as they serve the community.

Mary Thompson
Kitchen Manager

Mary is a top-notch chef who oversees the preparation of all the meals the Mission serves. She has a servant’s heart; before arriving at the Mission, Mary served food to the elderly in a nursing home. Outside of the kitchen, Mary is happiest when spending time with her grandchildren. She says, “I love to walk in the doors every morning to see the joy on the faces of the people who come for a hot meal.”

Teri Kwiatek
Outreach Coordinator

Teri develops relationships with the Mission’s guests and shares Christ and community resources with those in need. She was a volunteer before she started working for the Mission in 2012. Teri loves gathering people—she is a collector of people and a builder of community. She enjoys playing pickleball with her husband and all types of dancing. Teri says, “I get paid to do my favorite things: eat lunch and talk, listen, and pray with people! I love watching what God does here in and through people. It’s a daily wonder!”

Tina Cullum
Faith House Case Manager

Tina provides case management support for guest residents at Faith House. The women of Faith House continually inspire her as they share their walks with Christ. Before she came to the Mission, Tina was a preschool teacher with Head Start. She felt a pull towards the Faith House as she drove by it for quite some time. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, being outdoors, and caring for her plants and flowers. She says, “I am grateful for the opportunity to get to know all the amazing women and children that live at the Faith House.”

Valerie Moore
Food Outreach Manager

Valerie helps direct the food that the Mission collects to those fighting food insecurity around Frederick County. Her last several positions were in volunteer management within nonprofits. Valerie enjoys spending time with her family, watching her children grow, and traveling. She also finds pleasure in reading and writing letters and is a huge sports fan! Valerie describes herself as God’s daughter, a wife, a mother, and someone who gives her whole heart, trying her best. She says, “Since I joined the Mission, God has allowed me to grow in ways I never imagined. Some of my best memories are ones I’ve made with the Mission family, the staff, and our clients.”
