The Fannie Mae Foundation Help the Homeless Walkathon 2006
According to the information provided by Fannie Mae Foundation, on any given day in the Washington metropolitan area, more than 12,000 people are homeless. Just over 40% of the homeless people are in families. A third of homeless adults are employed. A third are children.
The Fannie Mae Foundation’s 2006 Help the Homeless Program offered several participation options, all of which the Frederick Rescue Mission took part in. After the completion of the youth engagements and mini-walks at local schools and youth groups, the Mission’s residents, staff, and supporters headed out to Washington, D.C. last Saturday to join in the official Fannie Mae Foundation Help the Homeless Walkathon.
Thousands of people came to show their support of all the different organizations who strive everyday to end homelessness. It was a truly blessed day to have been a part of this amazing event with so many others who desire to bring refuge to the hopeless in their community.
