Helen Kim Kids Spending Summer to Help Residents at the Beacon House The Frederick Rescue Mission has had the pleasure of working with youth teams of Volunteer Frederick’s SummerServe Program. Teams are sent out to different participating organizations, Frederick Rescue Mission being one, and engaged in service projects benefiting the organization. Last year’s team painted an inspiration mural on the brick wall in the backyard and presented Christian songs to the residents of the Mission. This year, an artistic approach continues as six kids work on a Photo Gallery project for the residents of the Mission’s Beacon House. The kids have already begun by conducting short interviews of the residents, typing and decorating their biographies. Next week, the kids will begin taking digital photo portraits of each resident with the guide of a professional photographer. As a finale, on August 7, 2008, one room at the Mission will be transformed into an inspirational photo gallery with the kids serving hors d’oeuvres and presenting each resident with their portrait, along with an encouraging letter. This project will allow kids to spend their summer making a positive impact in our community.
