Middletown Middle School Makes Pillows to Support the Frederick Rescue Mission On Tuesday June 6th, Mrs. Theoharris’ 8th grade class of Middletown Middle School invited the Frederick Rescue Mission to be the honored guest at their End of Service Learning Ceremony. The class presented the Mission with a $1,000 check that was earned from selling pillows made by the students.
Year after year, the Mission participated in Mrs. Theoharris’ Service Learning project by giving students a presentation about homelessness and drug and alcohol awareness, and allowing a resident of the Mission’s recovery program to share his experience with these two issues. This year, two out of Mrs. Theoharris’ three classes voted for the Frederick Rescue Mission from a pool of 11 organizations to raise funds for as a part of their service learning study. While we are grateful for the clothing and bagged lunches her classes make for the Mission every year, making pillows and selling them to support the underprivileged community brings encouragement that young people are truly growing into the concept of humanity and compassion.
