Needy Families Invited to Receive Free Food
Frederick Rescue Mission and Maryland Food Bank Partner to Distribute Much-Needed Food

Frederick, MD 12 Dec 2008 — Around 6000 pounds of food will be distributed to needy families and individuals in Frederick this Friday at the Frederick Rescue Mission, Frederick’s largest provider of hot meals to the needy in Frederick. The “Food Drop,” complements of the Maryland Food Bank, will take place from 1-3pm.

Anyone in need is invited to come to the Frederick Rescue Mission’s front lawn at this time to receive a food box. There are no income requirements, no pre-registration and no appointments.

“Our goal is to make sure no one in Frederick goes hungry,” commented Arnold Farlow, Executive Director of the Frederick Rescue Mission. “With the economy the way it is, this is an opportunity to reach out to the people we serve, as well as a little extra to those who need help.”

The Frederick Rescue Mission is hoping to see a turnout of those who need help, as well as those agencies who also are committed to helping the needy in Frederick.

“Hopefully this is a way to bring all who serve Frederick together and help those we serve,” Farlow continued. “We’re all in this together, and at the same time those with a real need get what they need.”

The Frederick Rescue Mission and Maryland Food Bank have been working together for over a year to ensure no one in Frederick goes hungry. Since this partnership was initiated by the Food Bank and the Mission’s Food Services Director Guy Mutchler, the Frederick Rescue Mission has not run out of food despite the rising demand.

“This is one of the best partnerships we’ve ever had,” stated Farlow. “We’re blessed by all of our donors, but demand has exceeded donations. The Maryland Food Bank has helped bridge the gap.”

The Frederick Rescue Mission is the largest provider of hot meals to the homeless and working poor in Frederick, serving 300 meals a day for breakfast and lunch, as well as distributing emergency food boxes to over 150 needy families and individuals each month. They also give out free clothing and furniture to the needy and are a recovery home for men overcoming drug and alcohol addictions.
