Jogging for Jesus

After competing in a 5K race back in 2006, Tracy Vagrin, volunteer and Board member of the Frederick Rescue Mission, and a handful of motivated residents of the Mission’s Program set out with the calling to make running a regular part of the men’s road to recovery.

Although these men were dedicated, they could not perform their best without the proper running shoes. Thanks to Health Unlimited in Mt. Airy, If the Shoe Fits shoe store in Frederick and other friends in the community, the men were able to wear gently used running shoes.

The challenge this year is to prepare the Jogging for Jesus group to not only run a 5K race, but even a ½ marathon. The group trains 3-4 times a week alongside other supportive volunteers who cheer them on. But there is an additional challenge on top of this… If the men put 100 miles on those old shoes, they will be given a brand new pair of serious running shoes, thanks to our sponsors! As hoped, several men have already made the commitment to run 10-20 miles per week.

If you would like to be a sponsor and encourage the men to restore their lives for Jesus, please contact hkim@therescuemission.org.
