Emily Moore The George L. Shields Foundation Grants Frederick Rescue Mission Much Needed Funds Frederick, MD, 6 February 2009 — The George L. Shields Foundation awarded the Frederick Rescue Mission a grant of $40,000 in January toward the Mission’s acquiring of a 15-passenger van for the Changed Life Recovery Program. The money is also to assist in paying the costs associated with providing the basic needs of the homeless and needy in Frederick County. “This gift is very important, especially in light of the current economic situation,” states Arnold Farlow, Executive Director of the Frederick Rescue Mission. “The money remaining after purchasing the van will help with operating expenses—where we need the money most to continue running our programs.” Foundation Board Member Robert Brenengen was present at the Mission to see the van. The Mission uses their vans to transport residents of the Changed Life Recovery Program, Frederick’s largest men’s transitional shelter for men overcoming drug and alcohol addictions, to appointments, court hearings, employment, and outings. “The Foundation has been a great friend of the Mission for several years,” Farlow continues. “We are extremely grateful for their help with our building and equipment needs.” For more information on the food drop, please contact Emily Moore at 301-695-6633 ext 222 or emoore@therescuemission.org. The Frederick Rescue Mission is the largest provider of hot meals to the homeless and working poor in Frederick, serving 300 meals a day for breakfast and lunch, as well as distributing emergency food boxes to over 150 needy families and individuals each month. They also give out free clothing and furniture to the needy and are a recovery home for men overcoming drug and alcohol addictions.
