Frederick Rescue Mission Holding Annual Backpack Drive

Frederick, MD Aug 15 2008 — With the back-to-school season just around the corner, the Frederick Rescue Mission is once again holding its annual Backpack Drive for residents’ families and community members.

The drive will be held through the end of August, and the backpacks and supplies will be distributed as supplies come in until then. Currently, the Rescue Mission is still in need of donations.

“We haven’t had as much response as last year,” said recent Volunteer Coordinator and Fundraising Assistant Helen Kim. “We still need more supplies, especially backpacks.”

Last year the Rescue Mission distributed over 350 backpacks with supplies to residents’ families and community members. They hope to receive the same amount, if not more, this year.

With the economy down, the Mission knows that it is difficult for some people to donate.

“If they can only give something small, we really need backpacks,” commented Kim. “The backpacks are more difficult for most community members to purchase.”

Donations will be accepted at the Mission through August 31.
