Chief of Police & State’s Attorney partner with Frederick Rescue Mission for Annual Event

Frederick, MD, 25 August 2008 — Frederick County Chief of Police Kim Dine and State’s Attorney Charlie Smith will be the guest speakers at this year’s “Say No to Drugs” event at the Frederick Rescue Mission September 20, 5-7:30 pm.

This is the second year the Mission has put on the event, each year having the same goal: bring awareness to the community about the drug problem in the area, as well as educate the local community about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. They also want to bring light to the types of treatment available.

“We see up-close-and-personal the negative effects drugs have on a person’s life,” comments Arnold Farlow, Executive Director of the Frederick Rescue Mission. “We want to educate our community on those effects in order to see as few lives go down that path as we can.”

West South Street, where the Mission is located, was last year one of the most drug-infested areas in Frederick, making it a target area for such an event. This year the number has gone down, but the presence of narcotics is yet a problem.

“It is hard to find someone, even right here in Frederick, who can say they don’t know anyone whose life has been affected by drugs,” says Farlow. “It’s right here in our own town, and we can do something about it.”

The Frederick Rescue Mission is Frederick’s largest homeless food provider, a shelter for men overcoming addictions, and a warehouse for the community to attain clothes and furniture.

The Say No to Drugs event will be held September 20, 2008 from 5-7:30 pm at 419 W South St in Frederick. The completely free event will include guest speakers, live music, children’s activities, food, and more.
