Seeing Is Not Believing at the Frederick Rescue Mission

After 30 years of being bound by addiction, Andrew Hosley came to the Mission homeless, and in need of restoration. During his year in the Program, his faith grew and he began to dream again. He dreamed of obtaining his high school diploma, but it seemed next to impossible considering his extremely poor vision. After the doctor told Andrew that he was legally blind, he knew that only faith in the Lord would make this happen. Andrew enrolled in the External Diploma Program in Walkersville immediately after graduating the Mission’s Program last May 2007. The six months of catching the bus, taking tests, doing and re-doing assignments, and praying for strength was all worth it when Andrew received his high school diploma in November! The moment was joyous for everyone, maybe because it caused us to re-examine our faith in what God can do. Today, Andrew lives in his own place, is an active member of a church, volunteers three times a week at the Mission, and is planning to take more steps for a secure, successful future.

“I was happy, so happy… While taking the tests, the words would run together and I prayed that God would help me see. It’s really not about the high school diploma, it’s about faith. The high school diploma showed me that if you really believe and have faith in God, then you can do anything. ” -Andrew Hosley, graduate of the Mission’s Program
