Bread of Life Community Kitchen

The Bread of Life Community Kitchen is more than a name for Frederick County’s largest provider of warm nutritious meals to hungry men, women, and children. It is a place where people are welcomed with a friendly smile, an encouraging word, and in many cases the loving embrace of a caring hug.

Because of the stigma associated with the name or phrase "Soup Kitchen" and the Mission’s commitment to treat every person as unique, valued, and loved by Jesus, the Mission decided to name our Food Service Department’s prepared meals division "The Bread of Life Community Kitchen". When praying and pondering this decision it just made perfect sense. Frederick’s caring community is what makes this ministry possible. Daily donations from a host of community-minded grocery stores, volunteers who generously give of their most precious commodity; time and personal care…along with committed staff and Beacon House residents, we create a family atmosphere where healthy food accompanies the life changing love of Jesus Christ, the true Bread of Life.

Each day we serve an average of 300 meals to men, women, and children who otherwise would go to bed at night hungry. More importantly, these individuals leave the Mission with a greater sense of dignity and self worth. No one hopes to be poor or hungry; unforeseen situations and circumstances can change a life without warning or discrimination.

Our Food Service Department’s Pantry is there to serve the elderly; the sick, and the working poor. Food boxes supply nourishing meals for those unable to attend our meal times. We prepare food boxes that can feed any size family for at least a week. It is only by God’s grace and the continuing support of the Mission’s partners that we can meet the need of our community’s hungry and homeless while ministering to them the love of Jesus Christ.
